Pensioners Threaten Showdown With HOSF

The National Association of Federal Public Service Retirees (FPSR) led by its chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Omoyemi, and the Federal Civil Service Section, Pensions, Lagos State chapter, led by Mr. David Adodo have accused the Head of Service of the Federation (HOSF), Alhaji Isa Bello Sali, of stalling the payment of November entitlements to deserving pensioners after they have been cleared by the Pension Reform Task Team.

The federal pensioner, who accused the HOSF of insensitivity to their plight, confirmed the payment of harmonisation arrears to 38, 695 pensioners across the country, in various batches, between January to October, as a result of the commitment of the Maina-led pension task team but wondered why  banks handling their payments have been instructed not to pay their November entitlements.

Mr. Omoyemi   who said they were on the verge of starvation, pleaded with the Federal Government to consider setting up a civilian pensions board as a strategy to permanently tackle the irregularities associated with pension management and as well save the reformed system from collapsing.

“Federal Government should make haste to grant the establishment of a Civilian Pension Board to save the collapse of the achievements of the task team through the antics of heartless and greedy individuals. The labour and positive result attained by this patriotic Nigerians must be secured”, Omoyemi stated.

The David Adodo- led Lagos State pensioners have threatened to occupy the streets of Lagos, if the Federal Government, the National Assembly and other necessary authorities concern fail to intervene by stopping those who want to enrich themselves at the detriment of pensioners.

LEADERSHIP however learnt that the attention of the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) has since been drawn to the development since the action of the head of service was affecting the cleansing that was carried out .This is even as the minister of finance has advocated the immediate transfer of the task team to the military pension office for outright purging, a motion that was well adopted at the NEC meeting.
