'Why I'm close to D'banj and not Don Jazzy' - Rapper, Ikechukwu

Image
"I have heard a lot about my relationship with D'banj. Some people call me his houseboy, bouncer, and the rest, but let me say this, I have been close to D'banj since day one. The first time I saw him was at Obi Asika's house, when he was about signing to Storm Records...and if you're observant, you would have discovered that we have similar features; he's lepa just like me and we have same swagger. So we've created some kind of bond right from time which I was not opportuned to share with Don Jazzy. I only find people that find me, simple! Those that I am important to are those that are important to me. I am just chilling with D'banj and now that he's making a stand abroad, it's going to be stupid of me not to utilize the situation he already has. So, we are not just friends, we are also doing business" - The rapper tells Encomium magazine in an exclusive interview

Aerial view images of flooding around River Niger in Lokoja

Image
The images were released by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, and shows the extent of the flooding in the city caused by the overflowing River Niger, which is virtually cutting off the Northern part of the country from the South. A lot of small villages in Lokoja and Kogi will soon be wiped out if nothing is done soon. The flooding has left many dead, thousands homeless, and movement from one place to the other impossible.  The flooding started about two weeks ago after Cameroon released water from the Lagdo Dam.  The minister of works said that the level of water seen in the past two weeks has not been seen in the last 100 years.  The federal government has contracted three major construction companies to free the submerged Lokoja-Abuja highway from flooding...and NEMA is currently camping thousands of displaced flood victims. Walnut is a hard fruit that nourishes the body. There are three main types of walnuts; the English walnut, also known as the Persian walnut, the Black walnut and the White or butternut walnut. This fatty acid also reduces the cholesterol in the body when consumed daily. Research indicated that few walnuts per day significantly reduced the risk of prostate and breast canc

Healthy Argument Boosts Relationships

Image
Many would say that arguing in a relationship is bad, but it also helps you to know your partner better. Blessing Ukemena writes. In any close-knit relationship, arguing, fussing and fighting are pretty natural… almost a given. When two people are closely linked, or intimately connected, arguing is a form of communication that simply comes with the territory. Whether or not you master this communication, however, is what determines if your relationship is meant to last forever…or for right now. If you care enough about your partner and want a long-term relationship, arguments shouldn’t be anything to fear or worry about – unless those arguments become abusive. In fact, some arguments can serve as healthy barometers to test the strength of your relationship. Just like what Janet, an IT professional within the FCT told LEADERSHIP Sunday. “I don’t feel right if my man and I last one month without an argument. It brings out the sweetness in the relationship. It’s after then that

On its part, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has warned of prolonged flooding in Lokoja and other affected areas in Kogi State as more water would still be released from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroun and Kainji Dam. The warning came as thousands of people plying the Lokoja-Abuja expressway are still stranded in the Lokoja axis as a result of huge flooding that has cut off the road. The director of planning, NEMA, Dr. Charles Agbo, gave the warning while inspecting the affected communities in company of Kogi State governor Wada Idris. ATM To Dispense Coins - CBN Plans

Image
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says it will facilitate the introduction of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) that can dispense coins to encourage Nigerians imbibe the culture of spending them.  Mr Chidi Umeano, Head of Shared Services at CBN, on Monday in Lagos said that this plan was in tune with the currency restructuring exercise. He said that the coins dispensing ATMs would hasten the acceptance of coins by Nigerians and change misconception about their use.  “To achieve this plan, what is needed is to facilitate the inclusion of a process called “add-on” to the ATMs.  “Good enough, the existing ATMs have the “add-on“ feature that will easily make them adapt to coins dispensing, “ he said.  Umeano said that the apex bank would ensure that newly deployed ATMs had the “add-on“ feature among others.  “It is very possible to achieve Automated Teller Machines that will dispense coins.  “This “add-on” feature can be activated on the ATMs at any time by the CBN and this is n

Reggae Music Is Revolutionary

Image
Since time immemorial, there have been complaints that people go into reggae because it is an avenue for one to champion his cause, but the truth is that reggae musicians have not been up in their game in Nigeria. Anthony Ada Abraham sought the views of some people about the fast decline. Reggae is a music genre first developed in Jamaica in the late 1960s. While sometimes used in a broader sense to refer to most types of Jamaican music, the term reggae, more properly denotes a particular music style that originated following on the development of ska and rocksteady. Reggae is most easily recognized by the rhythmic accents on the off-beat, usually played by guitar or piano (or both), known as the skank. This pattern accents the second and fourth beat in each bar (or the “and”s of each beat depending on how the music is counted) and combines with the drums emphasis on beat  to create a unique feel and sense of phrasing in contrast to most other popular genres focus on beat one,

Despite The Opposition, Come 2013 CBN Will Introduce New Note And Coins

Image
A survey by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that 75.1 per cent of Nigerians are opposed to the currency restructuring by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) which will lead to the introduction of the N5’000 note and the conversion of lesser bills to coins. According to the poll conducted by the NBS, only 16.1 per cent of the Nigerian populace are in strong support of the CBN policy while 4.04 and 4.62 per cent were partially in support and against the currency restructuring policy respectively. The proposal to introduce the larger bill and convert the N20, N10 and N5 bills into coins has generated a lot of controversy with many groups issuing statements against the CBN initiative. However, the CBN says it will introduce the new note and coins come 2013 despite the opposition the policy is receiving. The unyielding stand of the CBN may not be unconnected to the full support given to the policy by both the federal and state governments. The policy has also

Christian, Muslim Youths Condemn ‘Blasphemy’ Film

Image
Thousand of Nigerian Christian and Muslim youths yesterday condemned  the ‘blasphemy’ film against the Prophet Muhammad (SWA), even as they appealed to all Nigerians to remain law abiding. The youths, under the umbrella body of Christian/Muslim Youth Peace Initiative of Nigeria (CM-PIN) and has members across the country, said “as youths of Nigeria, we totally reject the act of disrespect to our religious values which we hold dearly. “The act of portraying Prophet Muhammad and in some cases Jesus Christ  by some individual in quest for financial gains is highly disturbing.” A statement signed by the group’s co-chairmen, Diji Obadiah Haruna and Mal. Garba Muhammad, noted that film was said to be of a low quality and the identity of the producer  questionable. “Even in the country he claims to come from, they had rejected his claim. Boko Haram Sponsors Will Be Unmask Soon...

Image
A Maiduguri-based cleric, Pastor Kallamu Musa Ali Dikwa, has unmasked those believed to be behind the activities of the dreaded Islamic sect.  He has also gone a step forward by sending the names of the alleged sponsors to the President of the Senate, David Mark, for necessary action. The cleric chronicled the activities of the sect in an open letter to the Senate President entitled, “Open letter to the Senate president: My Suggestion on how to tackle Boko Haram,” dated 17th June, 2011 but was received by the office of the Senate President on November 2, 2011. Investigation showed that alarmed by the claims of the cleric in the open letter, which was backed with five DVD-CDs containing video clips of the activities of the sect and their sponsors, the Senate president reportedly referred the matter, along with the five DVD-CDs, to the appropriate Senate committee for a thorough investigation on February 29, 2012. Image
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, on Tuesday, described former President Olusegun Obasanjo as “a very bad economist.” He added that he was surprised that the former President could oppose the proposed N5,000 note given that the high currency denominations in the country, including N1000 note, came into being during his (Obasanjo) regime.  Sanusi, while speaking at the sixth annual conference of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria in Abuja, said Obasanjo misinterpreted the impact of the proposed N5000 note on the economy when he argued that it would cause inflation. “This is an interesting country because my uncle or my father, who is our former Head of State, Gen. Obasanjo, you know he is a very successful farmer, but he is a very bad economist. He stand up and says that this higher denomination (N5000 note) will cause inflation and improve hardship,” Sanusi told the conference participants. Obasanjo had at a roundtable advocacy fo
