Omotola, Hollywood stars join Amnesty intl

NOLLYWOOD actress and songstress, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, has joined forces with A-list actors and actresses in Hollywood; Keira Knightley, Patrick Stewart, Patricia Clarkson and Jeremy Irons, on one of the charitable projects of the popular human rights body, Amnesty International.

The human rights body has a project called the Amnesty for Art Project, which the respected actress alongside the Hollywood stars will be fully involved this year.

She launched Amnesty International’s maternal mortality campaign in Sierra-Leone and she is a very strong supporter of the international body’s campaign for the freedom of expression. It has also been reported that she has a reality TV series on London based OHTV (via Sky TV).

The actors and actresses came together for a photo shoot to further lend a voice and shed more light on the negative happenings in Nigeria and other parts of the world. Their mandates ranges  from stamping out restiveness in the Niger Delta area to campaigning for the abolishing of death penalty as well as  abuse of the rights of women and the girl child.

Omotola pioneered a similar campaign sometime ago when she visited Sierra-Leone on humanitarian grounds; the visit was lauded by the international body.

Speaking on Omotola’s  involvement,  Amnesty International said “Omotola Jalade Ekeinde is a leading Nigerian Nollywood actress and singer with a huge fan base across Africa and the Caribbean. She launched Amnesty International’s maternal mortality campaign in Sierra-Leone and supports our campaign for freedom of expression”.

The choice of these Hollywood acts was not far-fetched as they are worthy pioneers of the movie industry. British born actress Keira Knightley has starred in several box office hits which include the “Pirates of the Caribbean”, “Curse of the Black Pearl” and others. She is in support of abolishing the death penalty.

During Amnesty International’s 50th campaign year, Art for Amnesty will be working with high profile artists with wide appeal, hence the international body decision to work with the likes of Omotola, Keira Knightley, Patricia Clarkson, Patrick Stewart and Jeremy Irons on this laudable project.
