By Gabriel Enogholase
BENIN – ALLEGED kidnappers of the late Benin-based musician, Mr. Bayo Ade, were among eight suspected kidnappers and 11 armed robbery suspects paraded by the Police in Edo State, yesterday.

Edo State Commissio-ner of Police, Mr. David Omojola, who addressed journalists in Benin, said two of the suspected kidnappers (names withheld) were arrested over Bayo Ade’s kidnap.

It will be recalled that late Bayo Ade, kidnapped on September 10, was on his way to perform at the birthday ceremony of the Esama of Benin, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion. He was later killed by his abductors and buried on October 22 in Benin.

The Police Commissioner said one of the suspects, a 68-year-old man, was the alleged armourer for the gang along with his three of his sons (names withheld) who were still at large.

He said one of them had abducted one Patricia and collected N1.2 million ransom for her release.

He was said to have thereafter threatened her with phone calls and collected recharge cards worth N17,000 before he was arrested.

Omojola added that two armed robbery suspects (names withheld) were arrested when they failed in their attempt to snatch a car from their victim. He said one locally-made double-barrel short gun and two live cartridges were recovered from them.

Also recovered from the other suspects were one locally-made pistol, one live cartridge, three motor-cycles, one Macron pistol, seven rounds of live ammunition and 28 different types of mobile handsets as well as N259,260.00.

… as SSS nab 4 in Warri

By Emma Arubi

WARRI – FOUR suspected kidna-ppers (names withheld) have been arrested by operatives of State Security Services, SSS, in Merogun community, Iyara, Warri, Delta State. The four suspects are among a gang of eight that gang-raped their female victims.

The victim (names withheld), a female baker, was abducted last Thurs-day at Okumagba Avenue, Warri, in conni-vance with one of her staff (names withheld).

It was learnt that the suspect kept their victim in a house in Merogun, close to the popular Iyara area of Warri, where she was blindfolded and gang-raped before the arrival of security operatives in the early hours of Saturday.

Vanguard gathered that youths in the community, who noticed the movement of the kidnappers and suspected that some-thing was going on, alerted security operatives. This led to their arrest.

The suspects have been transferred to the Asaba headquarters of SSS for further investigations. Efforts to get Delta State Director of SSS, Mrs. Ikanune, proved abortive but an officer of the service confirmed the arrest.
