Taraba… the most beautiful

THE Expo Hall of Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, was full to its capacity on Saturday, June 25, as Silverbird Group hosted the 24th edition of the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria (MBGN) pageant.

The event, which featured 34 contestants from 33 states of the federation and the FCT, Abuja, had three northern states — Zamfara, Kebbi and Sokoto — not participating.

Dressed in their state’s native attires, the contestants strutted to the stage at 8.15pm to introduce themselves amidst traditional drum beats.

Attracting guests from across the country, this edition was transmitted live, making millions of people to watch the show from the comfort of their homes.

The colourful event saw Sylvia Nduka of Taraba State emerge winner, going home with the grand prize of a new Hyundai Accent 2011 sedan, N3 million cash aside from representing the country at the Miss World contest holding in England later in the year.

Mo’Hits star, Wande Coal,  opened the night while the maidens danced on the stage with him in swim suits. Lynxxx tickled the crowd with his Change your parade single while the lady singer,Waje blew their mind with her energetic performance. The contestants looked sassy in their evening wears.

Miss Taraba, who was crowned the MBGN 2011, also emerged the best in traditional costume. Miss Bayelsa, first runner-up, will represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe later in the year in Brazil while the 2nd runner-up, Miss Enugu will represent the country at the Miss Tourism contest.

Other winners include Miss Ondo, who emerged as Miss Photogenic; Miss Kogi as MBGN Model; Miss Abia as Face of Select Pro; Miss Amity was Miss Ebonyi, while Miss Adamawa was Miss Lacasera. Miss Lagos and Miss Gombe came 4th and 5th respectively.

Members of the panel of judges present include Nollywood actress, Susan Peters; Riverdrill Group Chairman/CEO, Prince Tonye Princewill; Lufthansa West and Central Africa MD, represented by Ms. Nike Adegoke. Others were MD Notore Power Limited, Mr. Femi Solebo; Director of Classic Beverages Nigeria Limited, Mr. Bankole Animashaun; Corporate Affairs Manager, Eko Hotel and Suites, Ms. Caline Chagoury and Panic Alert Security Systems MD, Mr. George Uboh. Arik Air MD/Vice President, Mr. Chris Ndulue and popular Nollywood actress, Genevieve Nnaji were absent.
