KOGA debuts Dance234 KOGA
Entertainment is set to launch Dance234, an initiative to give talented youth an opportunity to attain national recognition in dance, in May 2011. According to a statement by the show’s producer, Jemila Musa, Dance234 is bringing a new dimension to the dance reality shows in the industry and will encompass all the genres of music.
“What we are looking for are pure dancers; we want you to come just the way you are. If the style of dance you are comfortable with is hip hop, galala, fuji, highlife, traditional dance or what have you, our doors are open. As a matter of fact, we are more than willing to accommodate a new style of dance. What we want are dancers in their purest form and people who can sufficiently express themselves through dance.”
Auditions for the show will begin in June in Lagos, Benin, Abuja and Enugu. Afterwards, 20 finalists will compete for the grand price as they go through weekly eviction sections. The release also states that the winner will walk away with N1 million, a car and a dance course abroad, while its first and second runners-up will receive N1 million and N750,000, respectively.
New segment debuts on Views and Tunes
Starting this weekend, a new segment called ‘Viewers’ Connect’ will debut on the TV music programme ‘Views and Tunes’. ‘Views and Tunes’ is a show that gives music enthusiasts an opportunity to analyse, criticise and rate local and foreign songs. It currently runs on 14 TV stations across Nigeria and comprises four segments: ‘Analysis’, ‘Extras’, ‘On-the-Go’, and ‘Viewers’ Request’. ‘Viewers’ Connect’ is the latest addition to the show, which is produced by Maxima Productions. The producer, Femi Ogundoro, disclosed what ‘Views and Tunes’ and its new segment are about recently. “We get the voice of the people, balance it with what the industry professionals feel and get the artist to respond to these questions. It’s like carrying out an appraisal,” he said of the show. Ogundoro added that the focus of ‘Viewers Connect’, which will air for 15 minutes on Fridays, Sundays and Tuesdays on Africa Independent Television (AIT) for the next three weeks, are platforms created by multinational corporations.
“‘Viewers’ Connect’ will focus on platforms that multinationals have created. We try to analyse that platform because people want to talk about Nigerian Idols, Star Quest, Maltina Dance Hall, Malta Guinness Street Dance and others. So, based on that, we are trying to connect the viewer with them. What you have is you get some people in a house and you start your reality show but there is no feedback channel, there is no point of interaction. Either you like the show or not, just take it. What we are trying to do is to balance it out, bridge the gap on that point where viewers can connect directly with their show. They have a platform on national TV to say this is fantastic.” Ogundoro disclosed that the segment will begin with the 2011 Star Quest, which started about a week ago and that reactions to the show are being collated online, on the street and on campuses. He added that two sets of content will be generated: one for public consumption, and the other for Nigeria Breweries, the promoters of Star Quest. “We are not trying to bring down the industry; we are trying to raise the bar and in doing that you do it constructively, not destructively. We air part of the content but the feedback channel is for Nigeria Breweries.”
