One wonders the kind of examples church members learn from their leaders these days, giving the kind of atrocities that are being reported about some pastors in recent times. The founder and general overseer of Lord's Delight Ministries located at No.51 Afolabi Stree, Ajangbadi in Lagos, Pastor Rita Obioma Obiakor and her husband, Pastor Paulinus Obiakor, are currently entangled in a web of accusations and counter accusations of infidelity and other behaviours unbecoming of people in their positions. James Ibori's mistress Udoamaka Onuigbo has been released from a UK prison after serving only two years of her 5 year sentence. Ms Onuigbo was found guilty on a three-count charge of money laundering in June 2010 and was sentenced to five years in prison by Judge Christopher Hardy of a Southward London Crown Court.

Five months after the death of her mother, Ochiedike Hope Onwenu, Onyeka Onwenu's only brother has also passed on. Her elder brother, Richard Onwenu, an accountant, died on Sat. June 9, 2012. There will be a wake keep for him on Thursday Aug. 9 at Hon. D.K Onwenu's compound in Ndianichie Obinetiti, Arondizougu, Imo State, followed by the burial on Friday 10, 12 after a Church service at St. Andrew's. May his soul rest in peace...amen

Part-Time Programmes Suspended In Varsities - Says NUC

The executive secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof Julius Okojie has suspended part-time programmes in Nigerian universities. He disclosed this in Abuja yesterday while announcing the accreditation of National Open University of Nigeria,NOUN. According to Okojie, the step was aimed at rationalising the activities as well as bringing them in line with best practices and to ensure standards. The reasons for suspending the part-time programmes he said included illegal operations by some of the institutions and over-bloated population in the admission process among others. He  stated that when the ban was lifted, admission into part-time programme would not exceed 20 per cent intake, and added that lectures for all part-time programmes would be restricted to university campuses only. Over 50 chief executives of federal government ministries, departments and agencies risk sack while about 50 others may be  redeployed when the federal government white paper on the restructuring and rationalisation of government agencies is released by the committee headed by the attorney-general of the federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke, LEADERSHIP can report. The sack will result from the adoption of the recommendations of the Steve Oronsaye-led  committee set up by President Goodluck Jonathan to restructure federal government MDAs, which recommended that 38 agencies be abolished, 52 be merged and a reduction of the 263 agencies to 161, in a bid to reduce the cost of governance, which government said was one of the highest in the world. Dana Air Flight 9J-992 Insured For $354.5m

Dana Air has revealed that its MD83 aircraft that crashed in Iju Ishaga Area of Lagos, a few minutes to landing at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos on June 3 this month has two levels of insurance cover totaling $354.5 million for the aircraft and for the third party liabilities.  “The flight had two levels of cover, US$4.5 million for the value of the plane and US$350 million for third party liabilities. The company has now made direct contact with 103 of the 112 families who lost loved ones in the accident and have also made contact with the six embassies managing communications with the families of those victims from other countries”, said Mr Tony Usidamen, Dana Air’s Head of Corporate Communications in a statement. The statement was based on allegations that Dana’s insurance cover was not up to date and that it might be unable to pay compensations to families of the victims.
