The acting governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Garba Umar, has described those who kill others in the name of religion as agents of the devil.

This just as he assured the citizens of Taraba that government was determined to ensure peace and order in all parts of the state.
Alhaji Garba, who made these statements yesterday at Government House, Jalingo, during a stakeholders’ meeting on peace and security, said it was unacceptable the use of violence as a means of self expression, as some are doing presently.

The acting governor noted that the meeting was necessitated by the senseless violence’s, first in Ibi and, a few days ago, in Wukari local government area which led to high death tolls and the destruction of private and public properties.

According to the acting governor, the meeting with the religious leaders of Christian and Islamic faiths, local government chairmen and traditional rulers was to find possible ways to arrest the drift and to ensure that the unfortunate development was halted, saying: “It must not extend to the third local government.”

He stressed that no religion condones killing, and therefore all those who kill in the name of religion were working for the devil.

He further noted that lack of job opportunities for the teeming youths was a contributory factor to the occurrence of violence’s, adding that machineries had been put in place to generate job opportunities in the state this year.

He disclosed that his administration remained firmly committed in providing improved standards of living across the state, saying that no project that was on ongoing before the unfortunate air crash of October 25, 2012, was abandoned.
