Social Housing Scheme For Demolition Victims - FG

Demolition Victims Will Get Social Housing Scheme – FG

Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed yesterday assured victims of the ongoing demolition exercise of the federal government's plan for a social housing scheme to compensate them.

Speaking after he accompanied Vice-President Namadi Sambo to pay Sallah homage alongside the Muslims community to President Goodluck Jonathan at Aso Rock presidential villa, the minister said government was not unmindful of the untold hardship victims of the demolition exercise were undergoing.

Noting, however, that the exercise was necessary to sanitise the FCT of undesirable elements, he said, "I will seize this opportunity to say that the demolition and other social services we are carrying out as an administration is not something that we like to do but it is something that we have to do with a lot of pans.

"But I assured them that under his Excellency President Jonathan, we are coming up with social housing with housing that will accommodate the needs and aspirations of every Nigerian, especially those that are affected by the demolition so that at the end of the day, we will carry out an exercise where they will be registered where will be able to provide them with affordable housing and in a place where they will like. What we are doing is to secure the nation, to secure the capital and to secure the residents" Mohammed added.

He urged residents of the FCT to always be their brothers’ keepers while assuring them of government commitment to their wellbeing.
