Careless Talk Led To Murder Of Oshiomhole’s Scribe - SSS

The State Security Service, SSS, has revealed that careless talk from the security guard of slain former principal secretary to Edo State governor Adams Oshiomhole, Comrade Olaitan Oyerinde, gave suspected armed robbers the clue that took them to Oyerinde’s house.

Spokesperson of the service, Ms. Marilyn Ogar, who briefed the press in Abuja while parading the suspects, said Oyerinde’s security guard, Ali Ihade,  made known his master’s wealth and influence in the Oshiomhole’s government during a family meeting.

According to the SSS, the flippant utterance by the security guard was capitalised upon by a member of the family who is also a member of a suspected gang of armed robbers.

Ogar said: “Recall that in the early hours of May 4, 2012, the principal private secretary (PPS), to the Edo State governor, Olaitan Oyerinde, was killed by unknown gunmen at his residence located at No.65, 2nd Ugbor Road, GRA, Benin.

“In addition to the suspects earlier arrested by the police in connection with the killing, the following six principal suspects have been apprehended: Mohammed Ibrahim Abdullahi, Raymond Onajite Origbo, Chikezie Edeh, Saidu Yakubu a.k.a Iman, Sani Abdullahi Abubakar and Hassan Bashiru.

“Investigation has thus far revealed that careless statement made by Ihade, the security guard of Comrade Oyerinde, at various times about his master’s position in government attracted the attention of the prime suspect, Mohammed Ibrahim Abdullahi, who subsequently hatched a robbery operation.”

One of the robbers who fielded questions from journalists said he shot and killed Oyerinde after he ran into his bedroom and attempted to go under his bed.

CSOs in Edo protest continued detention of Ugolor
Members of Edo State civil society organisations yesterday took over the streets of Benin City in protest of the continued detention of the executive director, African Network for Economic and Environmental Justice (ANEEJ), Rev. David Ugolor, by the security agents over alleged murder of the principal secretary to the  state governor, Comrade Olaitan Oyerinde.

Rev. Ugolor was said to have been arrested and whisked away by security operatives numbering over 10 and in plain clothes who  swooped on ANEEJ corporate headquarters located along First East Circular Road, by Sakponba Road junction at about 2.05pm last  Friday.

Addressing newsmen in Benin City, the state capital, the group which noted that the ANEEJ boss made frantic efforts to save the life of the late principal secretary soon after he was shot by his assailants, decried what they term as the inhuman condition he has since been subjected to in the prison.

They exonerated Ugolor from the dastardly act.

It stated: “We have examined the situation and reached the conclusion that some faceless persons who feel threatened by the lawful activities of Rev. Ugolor and his organisation have planned to dent his image and rope him into the murder of Comrade Olaitan. Such persons should know today that such action will raise the profile of Rev. Ugolor against their selfish desires and wicked plot.’’

The group described Rev.Ugolor as a man of integrity and unquestionable character who has always advocate a non-violent approach to societal development, adding that his well-articulated and result-oriented activities which span across national and international borders have yielded positive impact
