Man sentenced for making fake stamps

ST. PAUL, Minn. - A Prior Lake man has been sentenced to 1½ years in prison for making counterfeit postage meter stamps.

Thirty-two-year-old Andre George Mehilove also was ordered Wednesday to pay $230,000 in restitution.

Mehilove pleaded guilty in federal court last October to one count of manufacturing counterfeit postage stamps.

In his plea agreement, Mehilove admitted that from August 2006 through early April 2009, he created the counterfeit stamps using his personal computer and printer. Prosecutors say the stamps were copies of postage meter stamps he had bought online.

Mehilove also admitted he used those counterfeit stamps to mail items, and also admitted he sold those counterfeit stamps online.
