LAGOS — Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, described the death of the Acting News Editor of The Guardian newspapers, Mr. Benjamin Ukwuoma as shocking.

It would be recalled that Mr. Ukwuoma, who was also Guardian’s Acting Health Editor, died on Monday, aged 52, at Saint Anthony’s Hospital, Aba, Abia State after a brief illness.

Reacting to his death in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Lateef Ibirogba, Fashola expressed grief over his death, saying: “The Guardian Newspaper lost such a valued staff, who had, without doubt, contributed immensely to the editorial quality of the newspaper in the last 23 years.”

The governor was particularly touched that Ukwuoma left behind a 12-year-old son, who also lost his mother 10 years ago.

Expressing heartfelt condolence to the management and staff of the newspaper house, Fashola prayed for the repose of the soul of Ukwuoma and also prayed God to grant his immediate family the fortitude to bear the loss.
